Questions
What counts as a lookup?
One answer about one project type in one jurisdiction, for example "decks in the City of Poulsbo". Your AI app may look up several project types for a single question, such as plumbing and a structural wall for a kitchen remodel. Questions Permitame has no data for don't count.
Which plan is right for me?
Planning one project at your own home, like a deck or a remodel? Start free, and buy a Project Pass if you need more. Checking permits for clients or bids every week, as a contractor, designer, real estate agent or inspector? Pro. A crew or office? Team. Building an app that shows permit answers to your own users? API.
How does the Project Pass work?
One payment of $19 gives you 100 lookups to use over 60 days. It doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel. If you need more later, buy another pass or move to Pro.
What does "unlimited (fair use)" mean?
Pro and Team are for people using Permitame in their own work, up to 30 lookups a minute per person. Accounts that go past 2,000 lookups in a month are reviewed. Each seat is for one person: sharing a sign-in, reselling, or bulk downloading the data isn't allowed. See the terms.
How does Team work?
The person who subscribes adds up to two teammates by email from their account page. Teammates sign in with that email and get the Team plan, including their own API keys. Need more than 3 seats? Email us.
How is the API plan billed?
$49 a month includes 200 answered lookups. Each answered lookup after that is $0.25, billed at the end of the month. Lookups with no data are never billed. It's the only plan that lets you show Permitame answers inside your own product, as long as you keep the sources and the disclaimer with them.
Which AI apps does it work with?
Claude (web, desktop and mobile), Claude Code, ChatGPT (paid plans), Gemini, Cursor, VS Code and any app that supports MCP servers. See Get Permitame.
Is it a substitute for the building department?
No. Answers are quoted from official sources and name whose code they used, but rules change and officials decide how they apply. Confirm with the building department before you start work.
Can I cancel?
Yes, anytime from your account page. Your plan stays active until the end of the billing period. A Project Pass doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel.
Are public officials charged?
No. Building department and other government staff can use Permitame free. Email us from your government address.
